Doumeki has never been the sort of guy who enjoys pointless endeavors. He likes to have a purpose or at least a good reason.
So of course he finds himself taking a lot of long, meandering walks that go nowhere and accomplish nothing. If he's honest (and he likes to be) there is a purpose; something is accomplished. But, it seems almost shameful to say that 'being with Watanuki' is reason enough to spend hours, or even whole days, doing nothing at all. But it is. Just 'Watanuki' is enough.
It started when Doumeki's father interrupted him one day while he was cleaning his room. Two hands on his shoulders, steering him away from sorting his laundry and positioning him in the open front door of their house. He didn't ask, just waited. After a minute, Watanuki passed in front of the gate. His first step was automatic but his father held him in place as Watanuki moved out of sight. Even though he knew his father wanted him to see something he still wanted to follow Watanuki. He held still, like a good son, and after a moment, Watanuki returned, walking past the gate again. And then again. Pacing in front of it, apparently. Without looking at his father, Doumeki shrugged out from under his hands, grabbed a sweater, shrugged into his jacket, and left.
He threw the sweater at Watanuki and got to listen to Watanuki whine about not needing a keeper even as he struggled, blue-lipped and shivering, into the sweater. He's never worn it again, but Doumeki still thinks of it as belonging to Watanuki.
These days (months later, months and months beyond that first day) Watanuki shows up at his door and waits, leaning against the house, while Doumeki tells his parents he's going out. Or doesn't say a word to his parents, just grabs a coat. When the door closes behind him, Watanuki pushes away from the building and they fall into step together.
They talk.
Or they don't, sometimes.
Every now and again they do actually do something productive together. Like the day they spent three hours at the green grocer, prodding at vegetables and thumping melons and squeezing citrus fruit. Apparently, he is hopeless at finding anything 'good'. He got a lesson on how to get it right and a banana which was, yes, the most perfect banana he'd ever eaten. They eat together a lot which is how Doumeki learns that Watanuki has absolutely no fear in discussing recipes with complete strangers if the food is very good or very lacking. They detour into the mall one day so that Doumeki can get a new string for his bow and they both end up getting new scarves because it was getting colder outside again. They matched.
Mostly, they just walk. Miles and miles, day in and day out, side by side, so close that their shoulders brush, together.

FIC COMMENT NINJAS ARE THE BEST.
And also, this is quite easily the best 'add me' comment I've ever received. However, I was quite shocked and ashamed to learn that you were not already on my friends list.
I love the recipe-discussing!Watanuki. And the automatic-following!Doumeki. Like a puppy. Aw. <3
You are the most added of everybody who's ever asked to be added. :D
